Community Involvement
Senior Luncheon
Again this spring, we had the pleasure of hosting our 16th Annual Senior Citizens Luncheon at the Russell Street School. This year, more than 200 seniors from Littleton and Boxborough attended this free event, enjoying the catered meal, camaraderie and conversation.
"We are pleased to support the community in ways that go beyond providing safe, reliable power and water to our customers," said Savas Danos, General Manager. "This is our way of thanking seniors for their contributions to the community."
Open House
In the spring the Littleton Electric Light and Water Departments played host to 140 fourth grade students from the Russell Street Elementary School in Littleton and 92 sixth grade students from the Blanchard Elementary School in Boxborough. The open house, held annually in celebration of Public Utility Week, gave students a chance to learn firsthand the functions of electric light and water utilities.
The open houses were held at the departments' water treatment plant and the electric operations center. In addition to a tour of the state-of-the art treatment plant, students witnessed the creation of electricity by peddling a bicycle generator, learned the importance of an aquifer in the water cycle and viewed the functions of a bucket truck, safety equipment and other lineworkers' "tools of the trade." In addition to receiving informational booklets on water conservation and electrical safety, each student went home with an insulated lunch bag to commemorate their trip.
Christmas Lights
Each winter our line crews are happy to participate in the festivities by stringing holiday lights on the Common for the annual tree lighting ceremony.
Banners
We are happy to hang banners to help promote community events sponsored by non-profit organizations.
Treas/acct payments
The Littleton Electric Light Department contributes approximately $600,000 annually in direct in-lieu-of-tax payments to the Town of Littleton.
